These images attempt to create a timeless place, and a sense of alienation from place.
Looking to reference the way light was employed by romantic painters, these images have been made with the use of a 500mm mirror lens. I am interested in the way this lens captures a shallow depth of field, which makes the image appear two dimensional, and fabricates a painterly quality.
The mirror lens used produced a very confused background with lots of false detail and captured low levels of contrast due to thirty years of dust that remained inside the lens.
I am interested in creating images that offer a sense of retreat, escapism, and mystery offering a landscape that appears to materialize out of darkness.
